             1865 Carl Nowack House
The first home in Random Lake, this original house was built in 1865 on Hickory Drive across from Lakeview Park. Through out the years many additions were built to accommodate their growing family.  The Nowack family lived on this homestead for generations.  Originally the home was located on the south shore of Random Lake, the property was sold and the home needed to be moved. It was determined that moving the house was cost prohibitive. The decision was made to dismantle the log home and store the structure until such time when enough money was available to continue with the restoration.  The Random Lake Area Historical Society, Inc. was formed in 1998 for the purpose of raising funds to restore this historic home.  Many candy bars were sold to raise the money!

After the money was raised and a location was found at Short and Carroll Street near the north entrance of the village of Random Lake, a concrete slab was poured. The restoration began in the spring of 2002 and was completed in 2006.  In the fall of 2006 this site was officially listed as a State of Wisconsin Historical Site.  Additions include historic gardens, an outhouse and a brick walkway in honor and memory of area residents and businesses.  The Nowack House is open on Saturdays June thru September 10 am - 12 pm or by appointment.   Stop over for a "walk back in time".  900 Short Street, Random Lake, WI  53075.
